Windows vista comes with more restrictive licensing terms.

So, Microsoft thinks they are giving you more than the $380 you are paying for windows, they have to restrict its use to make a reasonable profit!

To start with, This time your Vista Copy is licensed for 1 machine, Unlike XP, one machine means you can not change the machine, So if you are crazy about upgrading your hardware so often, Vista is not for you, You can install it to one machine and change that machine only once in a lifetime (this once could be Transferring the license to someone else) to make a long story short, installing Vista on your existing machine is not a very good bargain !

NOTE about previous paragraph: (The preceding paragraph was written when Vista was in Beta, Microsoft has changed this and now you can install on different machines, But when it comes to windows Anytime Upgrade, it still reads, The first user of the software may reassign the license to another device one time, but only if the license terms of the software you upgraded from allows reassignment).

So why did Microsoft have to do this ? No idea, But all i know is that it is not very convenient, I change my machine monthly !

Lets put the only good change here so i can feel more comfortable telling you all the bad stuff after, Your warrantee is no longer 90 days, Vista ships with 1 year warrantee, first time in windows history.

1- Ask the audience to bare with you for a minute
2- Use one hand to reach for your wallet, and the other hand to reach to your cell phone
3- call the lawyer while you check how much money you have in there
4- Find out from the lawyer how much quoting this guy will cost you
5- Make the quote or use a less interesting one that matches your budget

So, Microsoft decides that you are not trustworthy, and this is why the trustworthy people in the windows team are developing the new Digital Rights Management Technologies.
