Wiondows Flip (Your Control + Tab (Ctrl + Tab))
The Ctrl + Tab is probably the most commonly used keyboard shortcut in windows, Now it has been upgraded with Vista, this is a feature i consider usefull (unlike much of the flashy stuff in windows)
Lets see why you used windows ctrl + tab (now windows flip).
You ran more than one window, Sometimes 4 windows of internet exporer, and you did not want to point your mouse to the taskbar to open it, so you hit the shortcut and a box with icons of all your running windows opens, you keep tabbing through them until you get the window you want to open, you release the buttons and it opens.
The Ctrl + Tab was never bad, even if you have 4 instances of a program open (with the same icon) XP for example gave you the complete title of that icon, so if it was internet exporer, you would see the title of the page internet explorer has open, and you can stop there...
A minor drawback of this is that users tend to browse through them fast, and didn't pause to read, so they sometimes miss the application on the first run, Now they have made it a bit better by making it flip through live views of the window, including progress bars, video, and anything else.
As you can see, the name still shows Above the image (was under before), And there are Live thumbnails of the windows so you can see what is happening on that window now.

and I think you've mistaken the alt button for the ctrl button. | From: Andrew Birch
