Windows Vista (IPv6)
Windows Vista supports the latest standard (Microsoft would rather use the term Next Generation), but in reality IPv6 has been around for quite some time (Just ask Linux) .
IPv6 simply means there will be an explosion of the number of IP addresses available to the world, In IPv4 the range was up to 255.255.255.255, and that will give 255*255*255*255 addresses worldwide (4'228'250'625), you deduct the unusable ones if you are network literate
The trick with the introduction of IPv6 that did not exist with IPv4 is that IPv4 is so widely deployed that it can not be suddenly stopped and we go to IPv6, The answer was/is Dual deployment where both IPv4 and IPv6 will function together, So now Vista (and soon the LongHorn Server will have an improved implementation of IPv4/6 to make IPv6 a reality in the coming few years.
The move to IPv6 has been slow since intermediate solutions came up, NAT enabled people to share an IP address, and server technology that allwed many domains to share the same IP address (Like apache and IIS).
