Vista comes with Parental Controls, But not the best parental control service you can get, Parental control in windows vista is not as advanced as that of norton internet security for example, While the later has a list of websites that keeps everything but the bad websites open, Windows vista parental control blocks everything but a few websites you allow thus limiting the users clean web experience
So Even with vista, you will need a better parental control solution, but if you do not have the budget for that, this may be a useful service
More advanced parental controls are available on the market, but they are pretty expensive

I tried to Google "iPhone" on my vista running computer and it showed this message "Windows Parental Controls has blocked access to this webpage." For what? just because I want to look at their major competitors product, and possibly buy a computer with their operating system? All I know is if you have Parental Controls set, that even if you have it to the lowest level or the highest level it will still block you. My mom had to lower the level because I couldn't view appropriate content. After lowering it I still can't see it! Use another service on the Internet to look at blocked content. | Vista's Parental Controls feature is horrible. I have it set to block porn and sex education ONLY, in addition to disallow downloads.
This results in such a large amount of sites / sections of pages being blocked that it's totally useless.
Moreover, while PDFs are truly "downloads", they are commonplace on the web today. Vista is blocking them as well, since I requested to block downloaded. Why not provide the admin with a way to define exceptions?
Clearly, Vista's Parental Controls is in its infancy stage, as it is feature-poor and obviously not working as one would expect (or perhaps it's working as one SHOULD expect from Microsoft). |

With very little effort one can navigate to some very vile stuff without being blocked - particularly various video viewers - while parental controls block you from looking up a particular garlic prawn recipe. Somebody in design must have mixed up 'prawns' with 'porn'. |
