Notes before you buy windows Vista

Windows Vista is nicer than Windows XP, but security wise, although much has been invested in the OS, it has not yet been tested in the real world, The beta testers were 2 busy writing books and exploring features.

If you buy vista, you should install it along with a copy of XP, as Windows Vista does impose a few limitations. For example My Logitech WebCam did not work well (discrete picture in video) even though i did download the Vista driver from the LogiTech website, My network storage did not work either (worked after playing with the networking preferences). So have your old OS installed anyway. My machine has Fedora Linux 6, Windows XP and windows Vista, i use them all.
