Windows Vista Firewall

Windows Firewall came out with Windows XP service pack 2, Not the most advanced of firewalls (in my opinion, may not qualify as a firewall but rather a simple one way blocker.

NOTE: Windows Firewall can not protect you from BadWare (Spyware - Adware) so if that is your concern, You should check with the Windows Defender page

Anyway, We have started investigating Windows Firewall under windows Vista, Has it changed ?

At the microsoft website, it reads "The new Windows Firewall includes enhancements for better protection and more advanced configuration." so we started the quest for the difference, What is Better and what exactly were the enhancements ?

So, let us start with the change, and describe what it is in every step

1- Now windows firewall supports filtering for outgoing and incoming traffic, Makes one just wonder, was the XP SP2 thing really a firewall, as far as i know, the basic firewall does this, why do they keep making a fuss of nothing.

2- The new management console (MMC), so what's in it for you, a one place to customize the system (speed), a bit more flexibility in giving permissions, Bottom line... you don't edit your firewall setting every day, Nothing 2 special

3- Rules, exceptions, More control, Well, how did they manage to promote the old firewall, if a firewall does not have these from the start, i don't think we can call it a firewall.

Conclusion: Finally Microsoft has a firewall, we just found out that the windows XP firewall was not really a firewall, The Vista firewall is Bare Minimum
