Windows Vista - History and About the name
Windows XP was codename Whistler, in 2000 Bill Gates announced that Blackcomb, then they changed there minds ! they announced that there would be a small release in the middle called Longhorn (later Vista), Later Microsoft changed there minds again and decided that LongHorn (Later Vista) would be a major release ! blackcomb was back to the fridge (or freezer) and LongHorn (Later Vista) was being developed.
The things planned for BlackComb were starting to move to Longhorn (Later Vista), then LongHorn's plans kept evolving (Microsoft kept changing there minds), and LongHorn's (Later Vista) release date kept pushing farther !
LongHorn release date kept pushing further and further away, So microsoft changed there minds again and decided to make an intermediate release codename's Oasis, Oh, then they changed there minds again and decided not to release it.
Then soon, Features were being dropped from Vista, You know time was not on there side...so they changed there mind yet again !
On July 22 2005, Microsoft gave Longhorn the name Vista, Vista is an italian word meaning "sight", and the philosophy of the name is shown in the quote of a Microsoft Spokesman "It is about providing clarity to your world and giving focus to the things that are important to you"
| "It is about providing clarity to your world and giving focus to the things that are important to you" |
| But didn't XP (From eXPerience) do that already, or don't all operating systems do that, ever since i installed LongHorn (before it became Vista), i have been 2 busy trying to find drivers for vista that actually did the Job right (rather than focus on my job), and to finding Firmware for my lan disks that Vista refused to open smoothly ! Just because a crashed program does not display in the same way, this does not mean it has not crashed ! |
Now we know where the name Vista came from, Ironically as i displayed to you above Microsoft is the only one lacking the clarity the name was derived from, (look at first paragraph where i give you a bit of windows vista history
